A few notes to self:
1. There's never really anything better after a trudging day of schoolwork than conversations over dinner with friends… and then silence.
2. Take everything one step at a time. If life were meant to be rushed, you wouldn't have been given 24 hours to begin with, because all things considered, 24 hours isn't too bad. You might not finish everything in that span of time, but you can get something - many things - started.
3. Life can get pretty depressing sometimes, deplorable, even. All you have to do is look for things that make living worthwhile.
4. It's okay to be shallow. Life's not all about profound memories or insights that heal our scars, it's about a handwritten note, a paperback, a random balloon, a smile on the street. Life's sometimes about the everydayness of things, and if it's all you have right now, then it should be enough.
5. Putting all things aside, you're actually really fortunate you still breathe. Not everyone does, and sometimes, it's those who don't survive to the next day that deserve the extra 24 hours. Amidst life's tendency to go wrong in all ways imaginable, it always has a shred of hope. Cling on to that.

Like my actual debut, there were plans of giving me a surprised birthday party today. My Psychology block mates designed an elaborate plan that would involve me going around campus and finally allowing me to end up at this cafeteria the block has seemed to call our own which was littered with balloons, cards, and a cake.
Surprises among surprises, though; I did not show up because I was caught up somewhere else.
No matter how much we think we have done great jobs planning ahead, life is always a succession of surprises. No matter how prepared we think we are, there would always be loopholes; always windows - an accident, a leak, a surprise - that will change things. It won't matter how big or small or inessential or minute this is, because if it happens, it happens.
And that's alright, we're human, after all. No one expects perfection from us, except perhaps ourselves. We fear surprises because we think it makes us vulnerable, when really all we have to do is let life take on its path.
And whether or not it takes on this journey through surprises is not our problem, all that we have to do is make it happen.
Because whether or not surprises happen, or whether or not we've planned our life to the most intricate detail, life continues to go on.
And so we have to let it.

| Unrotated bookshelves look like dashes |
- 3/365
- It's amazing how much time flies. One day books are read to you, the next, you're reading them out yourselves. One day, life seemed as though it only took a unitary direction, now, you're realizing there's really so much more than what meets the eye.
- Soon, although one would wish it would be later, you're going to have the same thing many people before you have - two years with a dash in the middle; the first clump of numbers symbolizing the year you were brought to life, the other the year when this life was snatched away once more.
- And you know what's sad? That unless you do something in your life that stays after you leave, you're forever going to be that dash. Unless you make a change, then that's you; that's your whole existence. That's everything you love, everything you hope to be, everything you wish you could do. That's you now, and if you don't transcend that dash, then that's who you'll be long after you're gone.
- "The moment you're born is the same moment the clock ticks for your death." Be reminded to be alive 'til then. Be reminded to stay alive 'til then. Be reminded to live 'til then.
- Don't just be a dash.
- Be something that lives on.
